ENYYSA ADDS A THIRD STATE CUP

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

July 17, 2012-The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) is very pleased to announce that it is adding a State Cup competition.

“The goal of tens of thousands of travel team and premier soccer players in Eastern New York is to win the State Cup,” commented ENYYSA President Richard Christiano. “Due to the exponential growth of youth soccer, there is a diverse level of ability among our thousands of teams. Adding this third State Cup competition ensures that all these teams and players will be competitive in their games.”

The State Open Cup, officially known as the US Youth Soccer Eastern NY State Championship, remains for Premier plus Division 1 and 2 teams but as the Open name suggests, any team regardless of division can enter. The team entry fee has been decreased to $175. Our State Open Cup champions represented ENYYSA in the Regionals from June 28 to July 3 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Two ENYYSA teams, the Girls-Under-12 OMM/World Class Patino of the Hudson Valley Youth Soccer League and Boys-Under-15 Manhattan Paris Saint-Germain of the Westchester Youth Soccer League, won Regionals. Only the champions of the State Open Cup go on to play in the Regionals and potentially the Nationals as the State Open Cup is part of the National Championship Series.

The new competition, for excellent teams in each ENYYSA league, will be named the ENY Upper 90 Cup. The teams entering would not be Premier League teams.

The third competition, rebranded as the Arch Capital Group Cup, is for travel teams that ability-wise are below the best teams in each ENYYSA league. Title sponsor Arch Capital Group writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.

The team entry fee for both the ENY Upper 90 Cup and Arch Capital Group Cup is $100. Logos of each of these three competitions are attached.

With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 12 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
