News ArticleTuesday, August 28, 2012MIRANDA HARAUGHTY NEWS By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer AssociationAugust 28, 2012-Things are certainly looking up for 17-year-old Miranda Haraughty of Glens Falls. After playing for many years for the Alleycats Soccer Club of the Capital District Youth Soccer League, she transferred to the New York Rush Patriots ‘95 of the Westchester Youth Soccer League, enduring the 370-mile round trips for practices and games. But it was all worth it as she scored one of the goals to give her team the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) Girls-Under-17 State Open Cup on June 2 in LaGrange, a 3-1 overtime win over the Smithtown Spirit. “Miranda is a very dedicated player who loves to play the game,” commented Rush Patriots ‘95 coach Donny Lucas. “She is hardworking on and off the field. Miranda helped lead her team to the state title and become a regional semifinalist. It was a pleasure for me to have coached her these past two years.” Miranda has been scouted by many college coaches and has already committed to playing for the St. John’s University Red Storm in Queens in 2013. She’s been on their radar since she was a freshman when college coaching staffs saw her playing for the Adirondack team at the Empire State Games in Buffalo. But first there’s her senior season at Glens Falls High School, where she already holds the Indians’ all-time goal-scoring record with 98 goals and has been a Post-Star first-team all-star for three consecutive seasons. Miranda has developed her wonderful skills through the ENYYSA Olympic Development Program and she recently toured Brazil with the Region 1 ODP team. “The players (in Brazil) are so technical. It was amazing, an overall great experience,” she said. With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 12 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
