ball How are Team Placements Determined?

  • Seeded Placements are displayed as numbered divisions. If a direction is included geographic considerations were also considered
  • Teams are placed in divisions that best fit their ability to compete with other teams within that division. Final determinations are based upon the information provided on team commitment forms as well as our knowledge of each team's capability (if known).
Division sizes: Divisional breakdowns below are for a 10 game season

    • The ideal division size for a 10 game season is 6 teams -this allows each team to play one another home and away.
    • 2nd most desireable division consists of 7 teams- this allows 6 home/away games for all teams and 1 home or away with 4 others (in these cases, we generally try to take distances into account where possible so travel time is limited OR in cases where skill levels are mixed, adjust accordingly.
    • 3rd most desireable division consists of 8 teams - these divisions are usually considered cross-over divisions where 2 groups of 4 are created (either by closest geographically or by skill level). Each team will play all teams their group twice then cross over to play teams in the 2nd group only once.
    • In a 9 team division - teams are split into 3 groups of 3. Each team will play all teams in their group twice (home and away) then cross-over to play each of the remaining 6 teams once (home OR away.
    • In a 5 team division - each team play one another 3 times - once home and away, plus once more either home OR away.
  • Skill levels were generally the first criteria taken into consideration; lower numbered divisional placements tend to combine skill levels and geographic location
  • Geographic clusters vary from one age/gender group to another depending upon the exact number of teams within the division. In some cases, proximity of fields to major highways assumed shorter travel time even if the actual mileage to more out of the way locations may have been shorter.
  • Our goal is to minimize average travel times within each division as much as possible while providing a viable game schedule for each grouping. The office will attempt to schedule the most distant games in a division for weekends and if necessary at a neutral site.

    ball Appeals Information
  • An Appeals Hearing is scheduled for TBA at Sandcreek Middle School in Colonie

U8-U12 Appeals will begin at 6:30 PM
U14-U17 Appeals will begin at 7:30 PM.

UPDATE: U18/19 teams will meet at a later date to discuss placement & scheduling for this year's season

  • After reviewing preliminary team placements, coaches may submit a written appeal to the Games Committee requesting a review of their team's placement.
  • All appeals must be in writing and received no later than Wednesday February 8th at 5pm.

Use the following Email link to submit your appeal : cdyslgames@cdysl.org
    OR
    FAX it to (518) 435-2328
(no phone calls to the office please)

  • As time permits, CDYSL will attempt to post a listing of pending appeals. Check the website for updates on regularly before the Appeals Hearing.
  • All appeals will be reviewed by the Games Committee at this meeting. While attendance by coaches who submit appeals is not necessary, additional comments are welcome, and helpful. Any coach may attend the hearings to observe the process and voice their opinions regarding how potential changes may impact their team's final placement
  • Final Team Placements will be posted by Thursday March 1st . reflecting remaining teams based upon their registration status and ajustments made by the Games Committee after the appeals hearings and those teams moved to "Wait List" status for failure to officially register their teams.

WAIT LIST for teams without completed registration packets:

    • Teams failing to forward completed registration packets to the office as of February 28th will be removed from any previously announced placement and moved to a Wait List on March 1st
    • These teams will not be included in the master schedule and will no longers be guarranteed to play in the Spring League
    • IF spots are/become available, wait listed teams may be allowed to move back into the schedule if their registration has been forwarded/cleared by the office.

Final Placements may NOT be appealed and will not change unless the number of teams withdrawing from an individual division may make realignment of divisions in that particular age group necessary to create a viable game schedule. No changes will be made without approval by the Games Committee.
  • Requests from U08 and U10 teams to play in older divisions will be denied.
  • Limited Play:
Teams NOT competing in premier leagues (Region 1, Eastern NY Premier, Super Y or Thruway League) will NOT be granted Limited Play status. Only those teams participating in premier leagues will be granted limited play schedules for the CDYSL season.
Limited play teams will not be included in the standings, although game results will be posted.

    ball 2013 Scheduling Reminders

    - The master games schedule will not schedule games on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or Memorial Day weekend.
    - U8 though U17 divisions will play a 10 game schedule
  • U19 Divisions The number of divisions and format of games for U19 divisions will be determined at a meeting of U19 coaches once team commitment information has been compiled
  • Mandatory Coaches Meeting

Each year the Games Committee meets with all coaches to review game rules, distribute master game schedule sand any other updates pertaining to the upcoming league season. Each team MUST send a representative to this meeting. Attendance by the head coach is preferred and strongly recommended.
