2020 Workshop Clinicians
1. Neal Ellis
Neal Ellis is the former Director of Coaches and Player Development for South Texas Youth Soccer Association overseeing the ODP program and Education program for 10 years. Neal is currently part of the Scouting network for the US Soccer Youth National teams and is also a National Instructor for US Soccer, teaching the Instructor License, B and C Licenses. Neal is currently working with Concacaf in collaboration with UEFA in developing coaching education programs for the region. Neal was also a former College coach and technical director for various clubs.
2. Bill Sampaio
William “Bill” Sampaio is the National Director of Grassroots Education for U.S. Youth Futsal . Bill is part of the leadership team and has years of experience and knowledge in Futsal in leading the Grassroots Education program. A native of Brazil, Bill has significant experience as a player and a coach in both soccer and in futsal. Sampaio was a Division 1 soccer player at the College of Industrial Engineering and a semi-professional player in the Luso American Soccer League. In addition, Bill has played and coached at the state, regional, and national as well as in international competitions where he achieved success in youth and adult's divisions. Sampaio has worked with youth academies in several professional clubs such as Juventus, Corinthians of Brazil and the New England Revolution. In addition, Sampaio was a disciple of Professor Ricardo Lucena, considered one of the most influential professional futsal coaches in the world. Sampaio has published a book and DVD focusing on futsal both entitled Futsal Training System. Bill was also a major contributor to the first ever On-Line Futsal Diploma produced by the United Soccer Coaches (former NSCAA) and U.S. Futsal. In addition, Bill was instrumental in producing the book 60 Technical Training Activities for 8-18 Years old. Prior to joining U.S. Youth Futsal, Bill was the National Director of Coaches and Chairman of U.S.Futsal Coaching Committee. Bill is a frequent lecturer and field clinician at the United Soccer Coaches and USYSA Convention, Soccer Champions Clinic, and several other international Sports Symposiums. Bill is also part of the U.S Youth Soccer Youth Members Technical Leaders Work Group.

3. Adam Clinton

4. John Ciano
John Ciano is currently the Head Men's Soccer Coach at The College of Saint Rose, where he has been the head coach for the past 4 seasons. In his role he is also currently the East Region Chairman for the National Rankings Committee for United Soccer Coaches. He has 11 years of collegiate coaching experience with additional stops as an assistant at Siena College, NJIT, and Manhattanville College. This past fall his Saint Rose team completed its best season ever in the program's 38 year history, culminating in the most wins ever in a season, a top 10 regional ranking, and a runner-up finish in the Northeast-10 Championship Finals. Coach Ciano is also heavily involved in Youth Soccer where he is a coach with Albany Alleycats Soccer Club and as well as for both the Eastern New York and East Region ODP programs. Coach Ciano is a holder of US Soccer Federation B license, NSCAA Premier and Advanced National Goalkeeping Diplomas and is currently a coaching education instructor for US Soccer.

5. Chris Cormier
Cormier brings more than a decade of coaching experience with him to Upstate NY . He currently serves as an Eastern New York ODP coach. Previously, Cormier was based out of Nevada where he coached at several different levels in addition to serving as the Goalkeeper Trainer and Director of his Breakout Goalkeeper Academy (2013-17). Cormier was the Director of Goalkeeping for the Downtown Las Vegas Soccer Club/Colorado Rapids Alliance (2013-16), Southern Nevada Soccer Association (2009-13) and Heat FC (2009-13)

6. Bill Steffen Ed.D.
Wingate University, Sports Psychologist
Dr. Bill Steffen has been educating coaches for 27 years in both academic and applied settings. Through his work as a Senior National Staff Coach and past work as Sport Psychology Division Chair for the United Soccer Coaches (USC), Dr. Steffen has contributed to the development of thousands of coaches via coaching courses, workshops, and presentations. Dr. Steffen’s work synthesizes his applied work for schools such as the University of North Carolina’s Women’s Soccer Program, Duke University, and the University of Oregon, his informal consultancy with coaches from many sports, his coaching experiences, and his professional playing career with the Albany Capitals alongside his academic experiences coordinating the online Master’s degree in Coaching Education for Ohio University as well as teaching at Ohio University and Wingate University. Dr. Steffen received his Ed.D. from UNC-Greensboro working with Dr. Dan Gould and Dr. Diane Gill, after earning a Master’s Degree from Furman University. Dr. Steffen continues to work researching coaching education and the ability of programs to enhance coaching and athletic experiences. Presentations have been warmly received at National Conferences for the American Psychological Association, the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, the Ohio University Master’s in Coaching Education (Soccer Coaching emphasis), and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/United Soccer Coaches national conventions. Dr. Steffen currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Exercise Science Program within the School of Sport Sciences at Wingate University.
Dr. Steffen’s research agenda includes examining the relationship between mental toughness and physical conditioning as well as the relationship between learning styles of coaches and experience.
